ESPN, which gets about $4 per subscriber per month from cable and satellite operators, pulls in more from affiliate revenue than other national cable networks, giving it another advantage. The consensus seemed to be that broadcasters will have to change their strategy. “There’s this whole issue of retransmission consent,” said Fox Sports Networks President Bob Thompson. “That can become their second revenue stream. You have to decide if you’re going to go after cash or get other channels launched on the cable side.
